Tramway Loop

Last modified: Wed Feb 04 09:59:32 Mountain Standard Time 2009

Description

A very popular loop ride, taking in the well-known gentle climb up Tramway. Tramway is probably the most cycled road in New Mexico. The views of the Sandias are great. A nice ride in its own right, especially if fingers are added in. This is also often used to tack extra miles onto the Slick 50 (or whatever). From UNM:
  • Ride N on the North Diversion Channel bike path to Paseo del Norte.
  • Just before Paseo, turn left onto the bike path that goes W down to the river.
  • At Edith (the first light), turn right and ride N ~1.3 miles to Alameda Rd.
  • Turn left on Alameda Rd and ride W to 2nd St.
  • Turn right on 2nd St and ride N to 4th St/Roy Rd. One could obviously just take 2nd all the way out of town to this point.
  • Turn right and ride E. This road starts to climb gently and turn into Tramway at I-25.
  • Follow Tramway E until it curves ti the S along the base of the Sandia foothills.
  • Continue S on Tramway and take your favorite way home.
  • The map above shows the way back on Indian School and Constitution.
