Highway 6

Last modified: Wed Feb 04 09:57:17 Mountain Standard Time 2009

Description

One of the best rides around. This naturally breaks up into three sections: South down the Rio Grande valley to Los Lunas; Highway 6 NW over the mesa and then through the Rio Puerco and Rio San Jose vallies; I-40 E back across the Puerco, up and over the West Mesa, and back down into town.
  • Ride South out of town on Broadway (Highway 47) to Los Lunas
  • Continue South on 47 which curves around to the West, becomes Highway 6 and crosses I-25
  • Ride NW on Highway 6 and enjoy the views.
  • ~3.5 miles before reaching the junction with I-40, there will be a store on the right - The "Mustang Store", even though it's no longer a Mustang. Stop and get food and drinks. It's a long way to the next re-fuelling options.
  • Ride E on I-40 for ~13.5 miles.
  • Exit I-40 at the Rio Puerco, cross over to the N side and continue E on the frontage road.
  • At Paseo de Volcan, cross back over I-40 to Central and continue E on Central back into town.
