For timed stage races, points will be awarded based on final overall (GC) results only, and will be 2 times the values in the table above.
For omniums, points will be scored for each individual stage only, and not for the final overall results.
Points are awarded according to the race group you ride in. The only exception to this rule is that juniors 16 and under who race category races will be scored as 17-18. If you ride in different race groups from race to race, you will accrue points in the corresponding NMRS categories. Points will NOT be combined for the overall awards.
One-day licensees and out of state riders do not accrue NMRS points, but do displace points for eligible riders.
The following are examples of how points are awarded.
Men Cat 1/2/3 Race, 17 participants:
1st - 36 year old Cat 1 racer : 20 pts in NMRS category SM 1-2-3 U40
2nd - 42 year old Cat 2 racer : 17 pts in NMRS category SM 1-2-3 40+
3rd - Colorado rider : No points awarded

etc.

2nd - One-day licensee : No points awarded
3rd - 45 year old Cat 5 racer : 38 pts in NMRS category SM 4-5 40+
4th - 17 year old Cat 4 racer : 34 pts in NMRS category JM 4-5 17-18
5th - 38 year old Cat 4 racer : 30 pts in NMRS category SM 4-5 U40
etc.

Rider Eligibility

In order to accumulate NMRS points riders must be USAC annual license holders and reside in New Mexico or El Paso. One-day licensees will not be awarded points and points scored while racing on a one-day license will not be awarded retroactively to riders purchasing an annual license part way through the season. Points are accumulated from the date of purchase of an annual license. In order to be eligible for an overall NMRS award, a rider must finish at least six (6) of the ten (10) events.

Upgrades/Downgrades

A rider upgrading to a higher USAC category during the season takes 1/2 of his/her points from the lower category to the new category competition. This only applies if the upgrade results in the rider changing race groups - E.g. a rider receiving cat 5 to cat 4 upgrade during the season will simply continue to accrue points in the Man Cat 4/5 series. If a rider is downgraded, he/she will retain his/her earned points in the upper category, but they will not be transferred to the lower category.

Tiebreaking Proceedure

There shall be no tiebreaking for the overall awards. If two or more eligible riders finish the series with the same number of points for their eight (8) best results, the riders will share the title and will each receive a jersey.

Promoter's Responsibility

It is the Promoter's responsibility, in order to ensure accurate recording of points, to send results to the NMBRA webmaster using the 14 column (9 required) spreadsheet format used to submit results to USAC. Most importantly, for each place in a race, the promoter must provide: rider name, USAC license number, rider age and the category entered. The starting field sizes must also be provided.

Pointkeeper's Responsibility

The NMRS standings will be tracked via the NMCycling.org Results Database by the NMBRA webmaster. The NMBRA webmaster will try to ensure that point totals are up-to-date and accurate. However, the pointkeeper can only work with information that is provided by the promoters. If the promoter provides incorrect or inappropriately formatted results, or chooses not to provide the field size, the racers are subject to receiving point totals based on the information provided. The pointkeeper is not responsible for tracking down missing or incorrect results. If a racer wishes to have his/her points corrected (based upon information not provided by the promoter), then he/she must have the race promoter send the NMBRA webmaster the corrected results.

Racers should note that per USAC rules, promoting clubs have three (3) weeks to turn in results/paperwork/funds to the USAC after their event. Racers should be cognizant of this fact and avoid getting agitated that results and/or NMRS standings are not posted within a few days after the event. Please be patient.

Changes

No substantive changes will be allowed in the NMRS rules or point structure after the first event of the series, unless it is to correct an unforeseen situation. Such a change will require a majority vote of the NMBRA Board of Directors.
